Help me with finding curiosities!

Does anyone know any curiosities that I can put in the Palace of Curio ? By “curiosities”, I mean like any strange trinkets that has some magical or occult properties or was intended for magical or occult usage. Or magical creatures, or just things from history that was used for odd things. It can range from mermaids, to fairy circles, to victorian tear bottles, to silver bullets, to anything that is strange and “curious” (I guess it doesn’t really HAVE to be magic).

I’m almost to the pages where I draw the inside of the palace. It’s supposed to be HOARDED with weird trinkets and creatures. I want each thing I draw to be really strange and interesting, but I just don’t know enough of them :-( So help?

RESPONDEZ S'IL VOUS PLAIT

AHHH thank you so much for all these suggestions! These are super helpful and I'm really excited to draw these curiosities out! I totally didn't know that I wouldn't get notifications for replies to journals so I was thinking no one even read it or didn't want to help me think of stuff....but hurray, I was wrong, and you guys are the coolest!

Curiosities C:

Uhm, monkey paw, knuckle bones, a trident, Herme's winged shoes, runes painted here or there, uhm... a magic 8 ball for amusement?

A weather vane that, instead of using a rooster as decoration, uses a phoenix or some other bird of fire.

Maybe a rainbow bridge or something, as a reference to 'Bifrost' from Norse mythology.

I'm not good at thinking these sort of things.

Perhaps some bones or skeletal pieces with obvious oddities to them, maybe being of mythical creatures.

Skeleton keys, various apothecary jars, old weapons such as swords or blades, some books with interesting titles, stacks of random materials or groups of items...

Hopefully that's helpful in some way.

Old glass bottles, genie lamps, old dolls, torn tapestries, old golden or silver tea sets, shiny buttons, long ribbons, torn parchment strewn across the floor, charms from charm bracelets, forget-me-nots (they're a type of flower, they're suppose to keep dear ones far away from you near), ancient coins, aztec statues, mayan statues, corn-husk dolls... does that help as all? <:)

Voodoo dolls, dreamcatchers, those waving Japanese cats (for luck!), nest dolls, swords... throw in bookcases if you need to fill up space.

  .CURIOSITIES.

Ghosts in birdcages, one-eyed cat's, a mirror room, a red threat, spoon's, frogs, music-boxes, a book with answers, many clocks, numbers, a helpful stranger, black tears, . . .
That's all I can think of now.

  Hopefully helpful ramblings

UNICORNSSSS...uhmm gargoyles or baba yaga, a witch hag thing from Slavic mythology... The ceffyl dwf is a Welsh Water-horse thing that tempts travelers to ride it and throws them to their deaths... As for trinkets you could have preserved animal fetuses or skeletons or old doctors tools. Uhmm maybe statues of Hindu idols, with all the arms and eyes and colors it could look cool ?

try looking up Miyazaki's version of Howl's Moving Castle. There's a scene in that movie where Sophie goes in Howl's room, and he has tons of trinkets....

There's a picture of his room here, if you would like: http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lfndtol5dv1qdw17ho1_500.jpg

Another great area for finding trinkets would be anything ancient Egyptian. For example, I know that the eye of Ra (if reversed the eye of Horus) has a whole fascinating story behind it since the eye of Ra is actually also Sekhmet. Scarabs are always good to for their legendary stories of immortality. Definitely, I have to recommend including Egyptian "curiosities."
For more ideas, I recommend checking out Discovery's show about a great antique shop in NYC called Obscura. The show's called Oddities & a lot of episodes are online. There would be a great resource for that kind of thing.

Things that are crossed have great superstitious qualities. For example, if you two pencils just happen to be crossed or to pieces of paper or something, it's considered a sign that something bad will soon happen. Maybe you could use that?
